How to do it

  1. Place your hands on the floor slightly wider than your shoulders.
  2. Step your feet back so your body forms a straight line from head to heels.
  3. Brace your core and squeeze your glutes.
  4. Bend your elbows to lower your chest toward the floor, elbows about 45° from your body.
  5. Push the floor away to return to the top.

Coaching tips

  • Too hard? Use the incline push-up first.
  • Keep your neck neutral — look at the floor just ahead of your hands.

Common mistakes

  • Hips sagging toward the floor.
  • Elbows flaring straight out to the sides.
  • Half reps that stop well above the floor.
