How to do it

  1. Stand facing a sturdy box or bench about knee height.
  2. Place your whole right foot on the box.
  3. Lean slightly forward and drive through the right heel to step up until the leg is straight.
  4. Bring the left foot up, then step down with the left foot first, under control.
  5. Finish all reps on one leg, then switch.

Coaching tips

  • Let the top leg do the work — don't push off the bottom foot.
  • Lower box height if your knee caves in.

Common mistakes

  • Box too high to control.
  • Dropping down fast instead of lowering.
