How to do it

  1. Put your left knee and left hand on a bench, with your back flat.
  2. Hold a dumbbell in your right hand, arm hanging straight down.
  3. Pull the dumbbell toward your hip, keeping your elbow close to your body.
  4. Squeeze your shoulder blade at the top.
  5. Lower slowly to a full stretch. Switch sides after your set.

Coaching tips

  • Think "elbow to back pocket".
  • Keep your hips and shoulders square to the floor.

Common mistakes

  • Twisting the torso to swing the weight up.
  • Shrugging the shoulder toward the ear.
